Becca Becomes A Real Girl; Chapter 1: True Love’s Kiss is a 3-minute race through a childhood as a girl in the noughties, using found footage set against home videos and photos. The resulting piece charts a collision course with destiny, propelled by the pairing of the romantic myth and technology.
‘This is an opportunity to show myself as a subject gaining more ‘sentience’ in order to even reach the critical and reflective perspective I have today.’
The soundtrack is entitled 13 F UK from Becca’s alias, Becca Forever.
‘For a long time, I’ve had the intention to create a chronological account of my life set against the media influences on it. The birth of the internet and of social media comes under this first chapter, which spans from the beginning of my childhood to the event which ended it.’
‘There are a number of other cultural points which I am eager to address in the subsequent chapters of the series, one of them being the data scandal c.2016. This is an opportunity to show myself as a subject gaining more ‘sentience’ in order to even reach the critical and reflective perspective I have today. I think it’s appropriate that I don’t have a true voice in this section. It leaves a sour taste. But this makes space for a coming of rage moment. I’m very excited to share that.’
